Gone

Gone, originally uploaded by miniopterus.

Full fathom five I believe. We dashed and splashed as she went under!

Positioning the hulk of the Canberra

Meanwhile back at work, I did a little job as part of the scuttling of the former HMAS Canberra. We flew Air Obs overhead for three hours searching for whales, dolphins and seals. Nothing to be seen so the charges that would sink the ship could be fired.

Shot from 500ft from VH JOE a Cessna 337. After three hours doing what was going to be a forty minute job, I was looking for a bottle....

hybrid

A warmer than usual winter and good rains has made for perfect orchid conditions down the road.

This hybrid has not been seen since 1983, and that was fifteen kilometres away.

A flower found at my place

Unknown flower, originally uploaded by miniopterus.

A quick inspection of a bit of remnant grassland found this out of season flower. We seem to have a population of around 50+ plants.

Commuter contrails

Commuter contrails, originally uploaded by miniopterus.

Well for the past month or so we see the contrails of jets flying between Melbourne and Sydney. Not sure how far away they are, must be at least 200 -300 kms away, judging by height. Today was an exception. Jets seemed to be conning just as they changed flight levels. Short trails then spread cross track. Leaves a rather interesting pattern in the predawn skies.
